Mundwiler information

In the fall of 2022, Bev & Craig Magedanz of Clear Lake, SD, agreed to place on a long-time loan basis, this about a 1905 Deere & Webber American Surrey, in the Buggy Museum in Stockholm, SD. Prior to the buggy's arrival, Susan & Steve Magedanz of Watertown, SD, re-painted this buggy in a sharp, gleaming black tone, greatly enhancing the look.

Not nearly as much is known about this surrey, other than it is also a Deere & Webber product, manufactured in Minneapolis, MN, & it came into the possession of the Magedanz family at a much later time.

This surrey, in addition to being used in many parades & public events by Bev & Craig Magedanz during the most recent decades of the 1990's, the 2000's & the 201 O's, was also used for more personal occasions.

2016, Craig Magedanz (nephew of Art Magedanz) was seated next to the driver in the front seat of this surrey drawn by a handsome pair of bay horses while three of Art's grandsons rode in the back seat holding the container of Art Magedanz's ashes. This surrey and team lead the funeral procession from Christ Episcopal Church in Milbank for inurnment at the Milbank City Cemetery.

Both this American Surrey & this Doctor's Buggy, are great examples of the quality work done by the Deere & Webber Company now about 120 years ago. We appreciate the faith the Magedanz families are placing in the Grant County Historical Society by providing both buggies for inclusion in this Buggy Museum.

Special Features within the Buggy Museum

In 2023 our electrician, Eric Magedanz, added a 220 volt outlet on the west side of the Buggy Museum to accomodate the different food truck's electrical needs & not have to run their generators.

Eric also replaced our lighting system inside the Buggy Museum, making it much brighter & enhancing the many different colors we have.  Eric also installed variable speed fans in the building in order to keep air moving constantly, controlling mildew.

Denny Flynn installed garage door openers in the Buggy Museum, the Tractor Museum & the Berg Lumberyard building in 2023, making building access much easier.
