Radio

Arlo has had an hour-long historical discussion with Jeff Carrino, the station manager of KMSD Radio, 1510 on the AM dial, since the fall of 2016. He is on at 9:05 am until 10:00 am every other Monday. Most of the now 300+ radio shows are historical in nature, typically relating to the many museums owned & operated by the Grant County Historical Society. Road trips involving historical museum visits in both the US & Canada also become topics on occasion.

Judy Backman talks about the large cruise boat she used to operate on Big Stone Lake, the "Eotanka," which offered historical & dinner tours of the lake. She plans to offer a similar experience in the future.

Arlo tells Jeff about fruit being "about the size of a silver dollar" - which lead into some of his stories about coin collecting, etc. The fruit includes a tame plum, a Chestnut crabapple, a Honey Gold apple & a Zestar apple - all of which are rapidly ripening in Arlo's orchards.

Jeff Carrino & Arlo discuss the 1870's boots & buffalo hide mittens, the 1890's black rabbit fur cape & hand muff & the 1930's double mink stole - all recently given to the Grant County Historical Society by Elinda Johanson of Jamestown, ND, & now placed on display in the Buggy Museum.

Arlo talks with Jim Christenson, of Sheyenne Upholstery Company, about how he has restored many of the buggies in the museum.

This was the day Arlo introduced the Norwegian cheese, Gamalost, to the station manager, Jeff Carrino. He chewed a bit of it, then spit it out into a wastebasket.

In this photo, taken on Tuesday, February 20th, 2024, Arlo is discussing the very recent restoration on an 8,000 year old bison antiquus horn by Aunna Corax, a paleontologist with the Minnesota Museum of Science in St. Paul, MN. She was concerned with the fragility of the horn we brought to her, so she stabalized it for us. This horn is on display in the Dolen-Justice Museum in Milbank.
